Unless you are a caveman that has not seen sunlight for the past several years, there is a ninety nine point nine percent chance that you interacted with AI in one way or another. Simply put, AI has fully taken over as a mainstream part of society. It is ubiquitous and unavoidable. If you do not desire to be lagged behind while the whole world is running, it is vital to incorporate AI as a tool to make your life easier and efficient.
AI’s Impact on Youth: A Generational Shift
How has AI impacted youth? Today’s youth or what we call generation Z, grew up with a boost of technological advancement. From the conversion of the era of DVDs and CDs to an era of streaming platforms like Pandora in the early 2000s and the discovery of smartphones and tablets and unbelievable technological breakthroughs, we saw the world change. Information is just one tip away. For me personally, as a university student, AI has become a lifeline to assist me in studying, researching and organizing my schedule. It is convenient and comfortable.
Apart from enhancing the educational experience, AI has opened a whole new world of job opportunities for the youth. I asked chatGPT to give me a list of job opportunities relevant to AI and it gave me eighteen jobs including data scientist, machine learning engineer, robotics engineer and AI software engineer. With the exponential rate AI is developing, the job market in AI would likely expand even more. Hence, it is wise to keep an eye on the AI market when you are pursuing your higher studies.
AI Complications: Balancing Advancements and Challenges
Yes, AI could be an amazing tool to make our lives easier. But, as everything else in the world which is made by man, AI is causing a plethora of complications. Auto generating images using stolen art, AI generated videos used for defamation, taking over jobs done by humans essentially making them helpless, controlling your perspective by suggesting AI generated information and enforcing biases and causing an overreliance on technology are few of the copious amounts of issues caused by AI.
Safety concerns are one of the major issues regarding AI. AI goes through an ocean of data including your personal data in a blink. It could encourage you to give up sensitive information. It could control your media consumption. You could be susceptible and vulnerable to dangers. Therefore, it is indeed critical that you consume AI with care. Humans are much more capable and creative than AI could ever be. The complexity of the brain and astonishing mental poweress is unbeatable.
Today’s youth are the future leaders. A great leader knows to take the maximum advantage of a tool without letting the said tool consume them. AI is just that, another phenomenal man made tool to utilize appropriately in a way that benefits us. Like Jesse Owens said, “Find the good, It’s all around you. Find it. Showcase it and you’ll start believing it.”
