Experience stories

20 Dec 2018

Randila Kulathilake

“Best experience was learning how to make Cappuccino. It was fascinating to me. I got to know so many new people and I learned so many new things in this country including the culture and their language. I definitely improved my communication skills. I also learned how to appreciate the cultural differences with an open mind.”

1 Jan 2019

punsara kariyawasam

“I was lucky enough to grab such an enchanting and enlightening opportunity by being a part of the project “Discover school’s Winter edition’19” which was conducted by AIESEC local committee, Oradea Romania on last winter. The project was under ‘quality education’. I was assigned to conduct education sessions for the primary school kids, which was intended to raise the Romanian education system by making an impact for 1% of Romanian population.”

1 July 2018

gamidu wickramaarachchi

“It’s good and excited. And everything is different here in Italy. Kind of a new experience for me. They are very unique and their thinking pattern is different from us. They are good but that goodness is not like ours. I don’t know how to explain and their bond among family members is very strong. Same like in Sri Lanka”

1 August 2018

Duneesha Thathsaranee

“It was an absolute privilege to get this wonderful opportunity, filled with love and joy during my entire volunteer period.”

1 June 2018

Lahiru Udayanga

“This amazing experience includes the best days of my life so I’ll pick volunteering over travelling anytime anyday..”

1 June 2018

Mayanka

“During the project I got to hangout with a lot of people from different countries and try a lot of amazing food. Participating helped me make a lot of friends in different countries and made me grow as a person. It was amazing”

Ayodya Samali

“I’m so extremely grateful I had the opportunity to travel in Europe. I loved the time I was able to spend there so much so that I didn’t want to come home! Until next time Europe..for now I’ll just think of all the beautiful memories and experiences you gave me.”

3 December 2018

Shehan Hettiarachchi

“Europe is a place that I didn’t experience a lot of culture shock.Of course, many things are different than in Sri Lanka, but nothing too extreme that I felt uncomfortable. Italians are very outgoing, and it’s quite easy to make relationships and it takes a while to make real friends that you can trust.Best experience so far in my life”

1 June 2018

Dhanushi

“I participated in an english teaching project in Vietnam as a global volunteer.I had the best time during my AIESEC exchange. It led me to experience things that I never would have if I was just another tourist.I got to meet some amazing people from all over the world and learn a lot about other cultures.I learnt how to be more independent, how to develop myself and I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to go back and do it all over again”

20 June 2016

Shavindri Perera

My indescribable experience in Indonesia taught me the importance of cultural diversity and the variety of ethnic groups within the society. The caring and unforgettable friends I made became my extended family. This ultimately became one of my greatest lifetime opportunities of excitement.

Got questions?

The youth of the age between 18 – 30.

It depends on your destination country. You can stay in a house with natives, hostel or apartment with other exchange students

You can decide the country depending on the availability of opportunities/projects. However, it’s always better to talk with your AIESEC contact person in Sri Lanka after signing up on the opportunity portal (aiesec.org)

There will always be an AIESEC person in contact with you, both from the country you are in and from Sri Lanka

No

To become a global volunteer with AIESEC, you need to volunteer abroad and step outside your comfort zone

You will be contacted by a local AIESEC member who will do an initial screening before you start applying and there exists an interviewing procedure with the host country. You will be assisted throughout these interviewing processes therefore nothing’s there to be worried about.

We have 8 local offices and each office helps student from in and around their city to go abroad. Our National office is in Maharagama and Global office in Montreal, Canada. click here

Food and accomodation is provided in most of the opportunities, however if not, the subsidy or overall cost is mentioned. It is mentioned in each opportunity.

Yes we do

Yes, health insurance is mandatory when exchanging with AIESEC to ensure your well-being throughout the trip.

The standard period for volunteering would be 6 weeks. However, it would always be better to communicate your availability and timeline to your Local AIESEC member as he/she will help you to find a opportunity suitable to you

Two years ago on a similar day, we lost hundreds o Two years ago on a similar day, we lost hundreds of precious valuable lives. Let us hope and pray this will not be repeated. This shows that there's still a possibility of violence due to a lack of cultural understanding amongst different ethnicities, hence why we believe AIESEC’s vision is still relevant and the importance of the existence of AIESECers to achieve cross-cultural understanding. As the youth and as the future leaders of Sri Lanka it is our duty to work hard to achieve cross-cultural understanding within our nation to achieve respect amongst each other despite differences in ethnicity, religion, gender & etc. In remembrance of the souls that were lost on the 21st of April 2019, we must remind ourselves that understanding each other is the key to living in harmony. Hence, We would urge you to be a part of the change, let's be open-minded, and let's try to understand each other and as the youth of Sri Lanka let's be the example this country needs right now! #AIESEC #AIESEClk #EasterSundayAttack #RemembranceDay #culturalunderstanding
In 2020 on the same day like today, we could impac In 2020 on the same day like today, we could impact 10,000+ school students by mobilizing 600+ volunteers on the same day at the same time covering all the 25 districts of Sri Lanka with the objective of being accessible to everyone, everywhere, and not leaving anyone behind while delivering the lessons, which were based on Sustainable Development Goals. We celebrate this as a remembrance of the continuous impact created by AIESECers and, we believe that youth engagement is a crucial factor towards the en route in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
