Learn Leadership from Home
What exactly comes to your mind when you see the word ‘leadership’? Simon Sinek, a British-born American, points out that leadership is parenting. Therefore, we could understand that there’s a strong relationship between leadership and parenting. Parents are the perfect example of cultivating leadership as they are the child’s biggest role models. So, parenting is considered to be one of the best training grounds for leadership. It’s a trial that forces to set boundaries, make sacrifices and communicate expectations clearly and consistently as well as to be accountable on a daily basis. Therefore, the 1st leaders we see are our parents. This is basically learning leadership from home.
7 C’s
Leading with inspiration requires the mastery of the seven C’s
- competency
- communication
- collaboration
- courage
- commitment
- creativity
- competition
and parents play an important role in uplifting these skills. As parents, they can’t give up or postpone their responsibilities. So, this is one of the most important leadership lessons we can learn from our parents. Children will admire, criticize, agree or disagree with their parents, but everything they do for the betterment of their kids will contribute to the definition of what a leader is. Based on their observations, kids will imitate their parents’ behaviour and construct their own idea of what’s acceptable, right or wrong. If parents are loyal and honest, their kids will act that way. Therefore, parents are not just leading; they are setting an example to use the best version of ourselves.
As parents, they should fight the right battles in order to win the war. The war is the long term success of their children. Parents allow children to learn from mistakes, develop their critical reasoning and enable them to feel comfortable with fighting for what they believe. Thus, parents create an environment that will allow children to take risks so that they could grow, move forward, explore new paths and get out of their comfort zone.
Conclusion
Therefore, parenthood is the first and most elementary field of action for leadership. Successful parenthood is the ability to raise responsible humans, take ownership of their lives, and make right choices. So, happy and stable leaders are integral to peoples’ flourishment and success.
