Ultimate Guide to Escape Your Comfort Zone

Life is full of opportunities to step outside the comfort zone, but grabbing hold of them can be difficult.

The comfort zone is a behavioural state within which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition. Within their comfort zone, they utilize a limited set of behaviours to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk. Because of a lack of risk comprehension, many people hesitate to escape from their comfort zone. In contrast, the true potential leader manifests himself/ herself and the team by pushing the limits of their comfort zone and arriving in the zone of learning.

Within the comfort zone, there isn’t much incentive for people to reach new heights of performance. It’s apparent that people go about routines devoid of risk, but that doesn’t create any learning. Escaping from your comfort zone does not identify with your consolation but the fear you possess to evade your self-imposed barriers

Create a clear understanding of what is beyond your comfort zone

If you intend to escape from your comfort zone, you need to clarify the components that belong to your zone of comfort and zone of fear. Developing a clear vision of what you need to achieve will be an excellent start to understanding your true self. To identify these components on a piece of paper, draw a circle. Inside, you can mention the things you are comfortable with. Note what you prefer but what you feel, as some concern holds you back outside the circle.

Analyze your fears and weaknesses

To manage your fear of leaving the comfort zone, use the previous activity and start analyzing your fears and weaknesses. Perhaps you can understand the fundamental factor behind your anxiety and work on it. Try to define the reasons, whether they are fears or negligence.

Set goals purposefully where you have to invade your comfort zone limitations

The goal being to escape your comfort zone, you can set realistic goals amidst the zone of fear. For example, suppose you are afraid of talking to random people or have a fear of public speaking. In that case, you can set a definite goal of making fifteen friends at the end of a specific semester or to compere in a social welfare project conducted by your university or college.

Pushing the limits to reach success

Pushing the limits to reach success

Consider failures as your guidance

You must not allow success to get to your head, but you must also not let defeat devour your heart. Understand that things won’t always go as planned, which is entirely okay. When things don’t go as planned, it’s too easy for many young people to quit. But if there is one thing you should not do, it’s giving up since you will fail a lot. Failure, however, does not imply that your concept was invalid or that your dream was insufficient. Failure indicates that there is something to be learned or there is a different path to follow.

Initiate with small steps

Leaving your comfort zone might appear to be a daunting endeavour. Overthinking and planning too far ahead can be stressful, leading to procrastination. That is why taking the initial step and putting one foot in front of the other is critical. There will never be a “perfect time” to begin. As the Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu famously said, “A thousand miles begin with a single step,” Each move you take to venture beyond your comfort zone is a step forward.

By leaving your comfort zone, you won’t leave yourself alone. But it will increase your resilience as you will face continuous uncomfortable situations, but surviving through them will strengthen your mental health. And you will reach self-actualization, as when our desire to become whatever we are capable of becoming. This is a personal development process and skill development to realize one’s maximum potential in life. Further, you will boost your self-confidence and ultimately have fewer regrets because you will achieve the life you dream of living.

You may see that escaping your comfort zone is not a nightmare, but you need to follow methodically for some actions. All you have to do is understand your strengths and weaknesses and be confident in your actions and results.

Being solution-oriented; a strategy to boost your leadership

“Leaders are solutions conscious. They don’t complain. You would find them repeating this common question; “how will it be done, and by who?”

― Israelmore Ayivor, Leaders’ Ladder

Leaders strive to make their team successfully driven to the aims. However, do they find this easy every time? Not at all; they go through tough times where everything goes strong, but the only thing they know is there is a solution to make this all correct. Therefore, true aspiring leaders try to inflict solution-oriented leadership skills which is a timely need of the present day.

A solution-oriented leader?

A solution-oriented leader is an outstanding character who identifies practical solutions in complex and challenging situations. They focus more on the positive result rather than the actions in the past.

According to Dr Rick Goodman,  there are five strategies to follow in order to be a solution-oriented leader

Few people trying to develop a solution

Solution-oriented leaders are the need of the day

Focus on the problem to see the possible outcomes

When addressing a problem as a solution-oriented leader, you have to be rational towards it. Instead of being emotional and giving it an address governed by the heart won’t provide a suitable solution that will be sustainable for the future. Therefore, identify the key inputs relevant to the problem and look forward to developing the possible outcomes without incorporating emotions and edits. Meanwhile, impart this quality to your team as well in order to establish the rationalization, but do not forget to be empathetic at times in need.

Develop systematic and strategic thinking

While becoming systematic and strategic, they correlate to two contrasting aspects. The strategic side is more creative and subjective, focusing on the big picture. In contrast, the organized side is more rational and objective, focusing on the parts or details. Strategic thinking is mainly concerned with ideas, whereas systematic review is primarily concerned with implementation. Instead of sticking to a specific thinking style, it is better to employ both techniques to narrow the gap between your current position and the desired result.

Leave out excuses

In order to be a solution-oriented leader, the foremost quality that you need to develop is to stop blaming. Usually, people who blame others for their shortcomings learn less and perform worse than their counterparts who take responsibility for their errors. They won’t own the solution if they don’t own the problem and won’t learn from the experience if they don’t own the problem. Thus, it is better to start focusing on finding solutions rather than trying to trace the person who committed it. Focus more to find out how things can be made correct and look forward while staying open-minded and collaborative.

Avoid problem-oriented questions

Leaders and their companions inevitably struggle to pause the questions and seek the reasons behind a problem. Being a solution-oriented leader, keeping your mind clear from distractive questions is vital. Your ultimate goal is to find the most appropriate solution to the prevailing problem, yet not to answer the bothering questions asked by your team. In order to avoid this sort of consequence, it is good to keep the team informed of the ways that you may follow; so they will give their fullest potential.

Create collaborations

Becoming a leader suggests that you have a team to guide you. Therefore, the whole team must be driven towards the essential amendments when a problem arises. Moreover, some extraordinary colleagues may come across efficient solutions that you may have not thought of. Hence, it is better to put your team together to achieve specific goals. Afterwards, rise from the problems instead of blaming an individual or, as the leader, you toiling to make it come to an end.

A man tries to trace a path; as per leadership qualities

Leadership is to find solutions

Similarly, in order to develop yourself as a solution-oriented leader, the best practice is to differentiate the way of thinking and always try to be open and controversial while listening to others apart from these. Afterwards, you may find that others call you a solution-oriented leader.

The consideration may focus on holiday eves, weekends, and the general announcements made. For example; on power failures or critical situations that are prevailing at the moment. Specifically, if a long weekend is on hand, it is obvious that the management would prefer to have a wrap-up session. Instead, the colleagues may prefer to spend time with their families and plan out their weekends ahead.

Keep meetings short

Another reason that reduces the interaction of participants in virtual space is the lengthy unwinding meetings.  Instead, it will be modest and fabulous if the organizers can limit the time and deliver the important messages in due course. So the space won’t be boring for the participants. Yet, it is a must to let the participants clarify their problems and let them come out with new suggestions. But it is important not to allocate a long period of silence as many hesitate to raise their voices in public spaces.

It must be obvious that during the offline working scenarios the colleges and the different stakeholders got a chance to get mixed, network lively. However, through digital inventions networking has been efficient but the strength has reduced drastically. The management has to be creative and think out of the box to come up with new initiatives or surprises. Therefore, the interaction of the staff in virtual meetings will rise.

Add entertainment functions

As stated above, long meetings will be boring and reduce interactions. Have you ever looked back into the time that you used to have physical meetings? Where someone may crack a joke and do a harmless prank, and everyone laughs and is stress-relieving. But now as most of these virtual spaces are more focused on discussing serious matters. It is evident that we face technical issues but as we are getting on with them, it will be a nice combination of entertainment sessions after a toiling planning session for the upcoming weeks or a progress review about past weeks. Somehow you can use this as a chance to carry the spirit of the team to the upcoming weeks with a mixture of some energetic music where the team can be hyped up to perform better, and simultaneously the interaction rises.
